Which database ?
Posted: 16 Sep 2003
Hi Faisal,
I'm in the process of setting up a database driven website using an Access database and I think your tutorial is going to help where I am submitting SQL statements to pre-existing queries in the database.
What are the relative advantages/disadvantges of using Access compared to say MySQL, which is free and can also be used in Windows with an ODBC connector. Is MySQL faster given that it seems to be mainly used by web developers ?

MySQL is a superior alternative to Access, there is no doubt about that. Access is slow as a pig.

Some examples use Access only for the reason that you don't need Access installed on your system to make use of it (only ODBC drivers are needed). While MySQL takes some time to get installed and run properly (although there are lots of articles on Stardeveloper which can help you in that).

All in all use MySQL, learn and understand how it works, unless you are developing a trivial web site.

Faisal Khan.
